Ford and Tesla Join Forces to Expand Charging Network

Ford Motor Company has reached a groundbreaking agreement with Tesla Motors that will revolutionize the charging experience for Ford EV owners. Starting from Spring 2024, Ford customers will have access to over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the United States and Canada. This collaboration will effectively double the number of fast-chargers available to Ford EV customers.

The impact of this agreement cannot be overstated. Jim Farley, Ford President and CEO, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This is great news for our customers who will have unprecedented access to the largest network of fast-chargers in the U.S. and Canada, with 12,000+ Tesla Superchargers plus 10,000+ fast-chargers already in the BlueOval Charge Network.” Farley emphasized the significance of widespread access to fast-charging, highlighting its role in Ford’s growth as an EV brand. With the ever-increasing popularity of the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, and a lineup of next-generation EVs slated for launch in 2025, this breakthrough agreement couldn’t have come at a better time.

Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s Senior Director of Charging Infrastructure, echoed the sentiment, saying, “We’ve spent the last 10 years building an industry-leading Charging Network that enables freedom to travel and provides charging confidence for our Tesla owners. We’re excited to deliver on our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy by welcoming Ford owners and other electric vehicles who adopt NACS to our thousands of Superchargers across North America.”

To facilitate this integration, Ford EVs such as the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit will be equipped with a Tesla-developed adapter. This adapter will allow vehicles fitted with the Combined Charging System (CCS) port to access Tesla’s V3 Superchargers. However, starting in 2025, Ford will equip its future EVs with the NACS charge port. This means direct access to Tesla Superchargers without the need for an adapter, providing an enhanced charging experience for Ford EV customers.

Marin Gjaja, Chief Customer Officer of Ford Model e, commended Tesla’s leadership in creating a reliable and efficient charging system. Gjaja noted, “Tesla has led the industry in creating a large, reliable, and efficient charging system, and we are pleased to be able to join forces in a way that benefits customers and overall EV adoption. The Tesla Supercharger network has excellent reliability, and the NACS plug is smaller and lighter. Overall, this provides a superior experience for customers.”

At Future Ford, we are thrilled about this groundbreaking collaboration between Ford and Tesla. This partnership represents a major milestone in the EV industry and reinforces a shared vision for a sustainable future. With an expansive charging network, cutting-edge technology, and a growing lineup of exceptional EVs, Ford is leading the charge towards a greener tomorrow. Stay tuned for more updates on new exciting EV models and the ever-expanding BlueOval Charge Network.
